The anime is better. The movie lies.
SPOILER (episode 25):
L dies in the anime, and he actually DIES. Cue Near, Mello, and other random characters. Kira becomes a celebrity and a hero, etc, etc.
SPOILERS (ep 37):
He is still killed by Ryuk though, but much differently. He dies alone. Misa commits suicide. The anime is way better. But the movies were still awesome.
