i thoguht it was 40 because it's used in alot of parables, stories and miracles mostly in the old testament.

The number 40 usually only comes up during times of trial/testing. That's why it's the tesing number.
Noah on the Ark-40 days and nights of flood.
Jesus in the Desert for 40 days.
God's people in the desert (was it 40 years or 40 months? Can't remember).
Egypt-40 days/40 nights of darkness.
